Do you ever struggle with the comparison game?
It’s one of my biggest stumbling blocks.
You see: I LOVE looking at other photographers’ work. Admiring what they do, getting inspired, finding new ideas. There is so much good.
But sometimes that admiration gets a little unruly.
I find myself looking at someone else’s photos — and instead of just celebrating the heck out of something beautiful, I start worrying that I don’t measure
up. And, well…that’s not so productive, to say the least.
So when I first found out sweet little Katherine is the fourth baby in her family — all photographed by another photographer here in Spokane (whose work
I love!) — my heart skipped a beat.
And then…I’m not going to lie. It started racing.
THE PRESSURE, you guys!
Here’s the thing, though: Rachel, Katherine’s lovely mom, explained their previous photographer recently stopped photographing newborns. She CHOSE ME because
she felt my style and quality was most comparable to the work they already loved. And I was still a little nervous, but — more importantly — honored
(as always!) to be entrusted with these important photographs.
Okay. I’ve got this.
I’m so glad I did. Even though we were trying to get images similar to Katherine’s three older siblings, Rachel was super understanding of the fact
that I am an artist and it wouldn’t be “the same,” per se. She trusted my vision for the session. I appreciated that more than I know how to say.
I’m so thrilled with how these photos turned out! The deep purples were a bit of a departure from all of the neutrals I’ve
been loving lately, and it was so much fun to change it up. Katherine is such a beautiful, sweet little baby, and I absolutely enjoyed spending the
morning with her. I’m sure her big siblings are absolutely smitten with this precious babe. What a lucky little girl to be surrounded by so much love!
Expecting? Whether it’s your first newborn session with me or your fourth, I’m always humbled by your request for precious photos like these ones. They
are images I know your family will treasure for generations. I’m currently booking newborn photography sessions for March 2020 and beyond; I’d love
